SUMMER LAB 2012 FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADE K-2 * Labs run from 9am-11am or 1pm-3pm * Small group setting, 8 students per week * Students share and discuss their work * Gallery shows in the BDL window * Students build + keep a portfolio of their work July 16-July 20 : 9am-11am Over the week students will explore the world of printmaking--creating images through repetition and transfer of paint and ink. We'll investigate a range of techniques including monoprints, collagraphs and other methods of printing by hand on a variety of papers, using wood, foam, cardboard and objects. We'll also expand on our printing projects, by painting or drawing over a print, or printing on an art pieces. July 16-July 20 : 1pm-3pm Think clay is all the same? In Clay Studio we will work with a variety of clays with different properties, like gray, red and modeling. Students will use their hands and tools to manipulate and alter their material. Projects include free standing sculptures and relief works. July 23-July 27 : 9am-11am In this studio focused on wood, students will experiment with wood elements to create sculptures, assemblages, and prints. Students will work three dimensionally to build relief and free standing works, as well as use wood as a tool to create two dimensional pieces. July 30-August 3 : 9am-11am In this class, students will make their own books! We will explore different techniques like stitched bindings and accordion books and we will make books for different purposes--journals, collection books and more! Students will also experiment with reclaimed papers and create their own cover designs. August 13-August 17 : 9am-11am Create art in the Third Dimension! We will build a body of work including sculptures, assemblages, reliefs, hanging sculptures and mobiles, using materials such as wood, clay, paper, styrofoam, fabric and found objects. Working in 3D is an inspiring way to explore space, form, balance, movement, and can teach you how to view the world from different perspectives. August 20-August 24 : 9am-11am Cut, tear, glue, arrange, rearrange, cut and tear some more! In this studio, we will create collages using a variety of papers and objects. We'll experiment with different glues and mediums as well. By layering, adhering and arranging, students will make portraits, creatures, still lifes, and abstract pieces. 5 classes : Mon-Fri : 9am-11am OR 1pm-3pm $200 + $20 materials fee : includes sketchbook and portfolio : discounts on multiple weeks - $10 per additional studio per child 1 STUDIO : $220
Refund policy: Tuition is refundable only if registration is cancelled before May 15, 2012 (minus $50 non-refundable cancellation fee). Make-up policy: Due to the nature of our courses and small class size, there are NO MAKE-UPS in Summer Lab classes.
Class cancellation policy: In the event Brooklyn Design Lab cancels your registered class, you will be notified as soon as possible and refunded.
